Quévanault, The Corrupted Elven Fort

Deep in the snowy Cedarwood, Quévanault is a fortress filled with reclusive elven soldiers. As a debilitating plague sets in, the paranoid Cedarwatch and their nefarious sage beseech a wicked god from ancient lore to heal their rot. The god assents, but only if the soldiers welcome the next passing travelers into the castle and enjoy three suppers together. Now, the party must find a way to survive the terrors of the fortress, appease the ailing elves, and confront the banished god who occupies the castle's depths.

Part horror adventure, part theatrical tragedy, part moody dungeon crawl, Quévanault is an ideal setting for creepy and morose roleplaying. More than any other borough, this prioritizes mood. This is an oppressive castle, and there is no "best case scenario." It is also—perhaps surprisingly—a deeply Canadian tale. If you've ever wanted to run an adventure in the wilderness of Northern Quebec, first of all... that's weird. Secondly, this is the setting for you.

As your players explore Quévanault, they're likely to:

  • Navigate tense supper conversation with unhinged soldiers
  • Sneak into the castle's quarantined wing
  • Descend into an eldritch abyss beneath the castle
  • Unwittingly free a banished dark lord

Maps

Our map of Quévanault shows off the entirety of the boreal border fort. Don't run sessions guessing about what this castle might contain. GM with confidence knowing that this is everything you need. Rooftop gardens, a frigid river, and mysterious cedar forests complete the picture. If your players try to escape, run thrilling combat as the elves give chase.

In addition to our exterior map, we have interior maps for the entire castle, exhaustively depicting every single room. Accordingly, you can run adventures all the way from the banquet hall to Velkoth's abyssal lair.

Don't like the snowy Canadian vibes? Reimagine Quévanault with our bold variants: desert, spooky, winter, hell, summer, and swamp. There's no wrong way to run this setting.

Music

Quévanault's music is, of course, spooky, regal, and unhinged. Run complex social engagements with "Webs" before stressing your party out with "Quarantined." Then, when it's time to finally confront the evil god in the bowels of the castle, play "Velkoth" to scare the pants off your adventurers.
